Larry and Don in the Showroom
Larry Komisar grew up in a family owned Architectural Woodwork manufacturing business that was started by his father and uncle in New Haven, CT in 1946. Larry joined the firm in 1972,then left the business to follow an urge to own a Bar/Restaurant, and in 1983 opened NEIGHBORS CAFE in New Haven. After a successful run with that venture, he was lured back to the world of custom cabinetry and millwork, only this time in the residential remodeling of KITCHENS & BATHS in 1989.

For the past 20 years Larry has helped build Project Management Systems for some of Connecticut's largest KITCHEN & BATH specialists. "The biggest joy in my work is coordinating the talents, skills and efforts of designer, subcontractors and suppliers to make each project as comfortable and seamless an experience as possible. It is of great satisfaction for me to see the space transform into the final design, as well as exceeding the clients expectations." On Februaury 1st, 2009, Larry's dream of owning his own showroom became a reality in LITCHFIELD HILLS KITCHEN & BATH.

Don Hodkoski's experience spans 29 years of working in all aspects of the design/build industry. After attending The Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York and graduating from the University of Connecticut, Don put his talents to the test. "I've worked with condominium developers, custom post & beam construction, and residential home construction and remodeling." As a result of his experience, it became apparent his strength is KITCHEN & BATH design. His knowledge and ability to create an environment of trust and respect, builds solid relationships and customer loyalty. Don models his style after his Dad, who operated a successful business in Litchfield for 43 years.

As a designer, Don is mindful that the project at hand, whether large or small, is a most important priority to his client. Don is known for his attention to detail and willingness to spend indispensable time with his customers. Don's work always reflects his client's taste, style, desires and needs. "They are entrusting me with their dreams and rely on my expertise to make them come true. The final product should be aesthetically pleasing but also functionally sound. It is a team effort, from the designer, project manager, professional installation crews and the client, who is informed and involved from start to finish. The kitchen is the gathering room for family and friends, and an important investment for the quality of life, and without question, a huge asset for resale."

Deborah L. Bassler joined Litchfield Hills Kitchen & Bath to continue to live her dream of designing kitchens and baths. After 14 years in marketing, servicing Fortune 100 clients, Deb began to pursue her dream of making a living while working with her passion – space planning and interior design.

After Interior Design classes at Fairfield University she realized that her area of specialty lay in kitchen and bath design, “its space planning, with architectural components. I love to cook, entertain, and organize, so the kitchen was a natural fit. Little did I know that bathrooms could be so fun as well! For me this is all about creating, thinking outside of the box and helping a client co-create a space that makes them physically, emotionally and financially happy.” Deb is currently rounding out her 4 years of kitchen and bath design experience by studying for her National Kitchen and Bath, AKBD certification.

Deb’s enthusiasm for this industry is addictive. Just a few minutes talking to her about a project can get you excited to hear more. Deb’s clients say, “It’s so nice to work with someone who is so happy to be at work, who’s so engaged in their project.” One of Deb’s busy New York clients came in saying, “she has made my life so easy!”

Some of Deb’s most recent projects include a grand, master bedroom (26’ x 11’) closet with his and hers quarters, center islands on each side. The client had very specific storage needs with 40 ft of hanging space needed, just for “her” clothes. The closet included a fold and hide step stool, pop-out telescoping ironing board and two large tilt-out hampers.“Although the closet is large, the client needed access to as much storage as possible. In order maximize the space we used mostly open cabinetry, lots of adjustable shelves that could be used for shoe storage or folded clothing. We also incorporated custom jewelry drawers, built-in telescoping tie and belt racks and valet hooks to help view outfits while dressing.”

Deb also recently designed her own cottage kitchen which conceptually has the feeling of an old Victorian kitchen where furniture was brought in from other rooms to create the work space for food preparation. Deb’s version includes free standing cabinetry build to mimic furniture pieces.
She also incorporated frameless and inset cabinetry in 3 different colors and woods which lends a warm eclectic quality to the room. Finishing touches like honed granite countertops, a large farm sink and a basket weave tile backsplash set of the design off. “Finding the perfect “accessories” for your kitchen is like finding the perfect earrings or your favorite dress, when you find it viola, magnificent.”

Extending beyond the kitchen and bath, Deb completely transformed and renovated a typical 1950’s ranch into a quaint carriage house by opening up walls, adding open shelving to the kitchen and using antique chestnut beams and barn board to create an architecturally old feeling inside the house. Ideas abound!

Larry & Don have worked together in Litchfield County for over 10 years,Deborah joined the team in October 2006. They have over 50 years of combined experience. "Working together in this venture affords us the privilege to run a business based on a shared philosophy of delivering to our clients custom tailored designs, quality products, uncompromised service and unparalleled value."
